Philanthropic and grand gestures are wonderful, but not everyone has the time, money and resources to do charitable work. The good news is that, you can make a big difference in other people’s lives by doing random acts of kindness.

This holiday season, I encourage you to spread love, happiness and kindness to others by doing one good deed every day. It doesn’t take much of an effort, but it can make a person’s day better in an instant. Plus, you’ll also feel good about yourself.

Through small acts of kindness, you can spread more happiness in the world. Here are 4 easy ways to spread happiness and kindness around you.

1. Listen to someone else’s problem

If a friend or a family member is going through a tough time, encourage them to talk about their problems and voice out their feelings. Putting feelings into words will help make the person feel better.  Plus, knowing that someone took the time to listen and is willing to give them their undivided attention makes them feel valued, understood and accepted.

2. Write a thank you note

A simple “I appreciate you note” to your spouse or partner who works so hard to help provide for your family or to your mom who looks after your kids when you need to go somewhere can really go a long way. If you’re staying at a hotel or dining in a restaurant and you enjoy their services, let the staff know. One simple note is enough to put a smile on their face and motivation in their heart.

3. Compliment someone

When the occasion arises, say something thoughtful and genuine to someone. Appreciate the effort it takes when someone does a good job. Praise an employee or a co-worker for a job well done. Compliment the chef! This will motivate them to do better and will give them a boost in confidence as well. It feels good when effort is recognized!

4. Smile

Your smile is also contagious. Smile and the world will smile with you. Smiling will not only make you feel happy, it can also brighten up somebody’s day. Share smiles with your family, friends and the people around you. Look them in the eye and offer them your sweetest smile.
