In spite of everything that you need to do, there are bound to be times when you find yourself not wanting to do anything. You know you have a very long to-do list, yet all you really want to do is lie in bed and watch Netflix on your laptop. It happens to all of us, even the most ambitious, driven, and motivated of people.
Luckily, there are some things you can do to motivate yourself to do what you need to do and focus on your goals. Give these suggestions a try and see which ones will help you move from inactivity to productivity.
On days when you don’t feel like doing anything, getting started can be a big obstacle. Oftentimes, you don’t feel motivated because you’re thinking of how much time and effort it will take you to get everything done.
Go through your to-do list and start with the easiest task – one that can be accomplished in the shortest amount of time. If one of the tasks can be accomplished within 15 to 30 minutes, start there. Commit to working on that project. Once you get started, you’ll find it easier to continue with the rest of your to-do list.
Focus on your goal
The world is full of distractions. With so many different interruptions battling for your attention, it’s often hard to focus attention on the work right in front of you. Distractions can get in the way of accomplishing your most significant goals.
Next time you find yourself lacking focus, ask yourself: Why are you doing what you’re doing? Keep moving until you get closer to your end goal. Once the end is in sight, you’ll find yourself full of anticipation and enthusiasm.
Choose to take the next step
Somewhere along the way, did you buy into the idea that you have to be eager to do something before you take action? Waiting until you feel like doing something is a mistake. Waiting for the right time could mean not ever feel like getting it done.
Take action despite how you feel. Rather than telling yourself that you need to or must do things, tell yourself that you choose to take the next step. It’s not always easy, but this will help shift your attitude and emotional tone.
